Sunday December 13

Pizza is traditional Sunday evening fare, and you can't do better than Lo Coco's Special with artichoke hearts and pepperoni. But the heart and soul of this magnificent pie is the anchovy. As Michael Corleone's Sicilian grandmother (might have) said, "è magnifico!"

The hangar steak from Café Rouge butcher shop was perfectly cooked, and delicious, as always. The potatoes, although tasty, were a disappointment when compared with the exquisitely crispy and delicious Yellow Finns from November 21st's dinner. It seems olive oil is the way to go, after all. Kudos to Sketch for the fine Meyer lemon olive oil cake. Olive oil, what can't it do? And the 2006 Bourgogne Rouge was just what the doctor ordered! Overall, another great meal.

Although I wasn't able to sample the tray of uni from Tokyo Fish, I suspect it paled in comparison to this superb dinner! The chicken thighs were perfectly seared to seal in their juices before meeting their perfect complement—fresh and savory dinosaur kale with jasmine rice. The kumquat peel was the ingredient de résistance—a stroke of genius that we've grown to expect from this fine chef!
